Cambodian national, he grew up in France and follows fusion style of cooking,
combining passion, creativity and dedication to the profession and his working
environment. He says that passion is a prerequisite in becoming a good cook,
because without passion you won’t be so curious about new ideas, catch modern
trends and understand and listen to the customers so well.
Judge Sakal PHOEUNG
A special feature in Sakal’s dishes, is a fusion cooking
style which combines and coordinates flavors with local ingredients. He changes
the recipes continuously and tries to make new dishes using many kinds of fresh
and nutritious ingredients
He graduated in the field of gourmet art
from the Lenotre School in France and is certified by Aptitude for his
profession. He also won Iron Chef Vietnam game show 5 times, and the Golden
Prize in the MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge contest. He is fluentl in French,
English and Khmer. He is a head chef at Sofitel Plaza Saigon Hotel and before
that he was head chef at the Sofitel Cambodia, Sofitel Wanda Beijing (China)
and vice chef at the 4-star hotel and restaurant Le Chateau de Candie (France)
