Its goals are to explore, preserve and develop Vietnamese cuisine and showcase it to local people, foreign visitors and the outside world.

It has 163 members including culinary researchers and experts, and organisations and business in the food, hospitality and tourism sectors in Hà Nội, HCM City, Thanh Hóa, Quảng Bình, and Cần Thơ.

It will function under the aegis of the ministries of Home Affairs and Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Speaking at the inaugural event at the Reunion Palace, Nguyễn Văn Tuấn, chairman of the Việt Nam National Administration of Tourism, said: “The Việt Nam Culinary Culture Association opens a path to research, promote and honour Vietnamese food, chefs and culinary artisans and researchers.

“It will also help develop Vietnamese cuisine into a strong brand name as a way to develop the country’s tourism.”

The association will fulfill its charter by carrying out research, combining and promoting traditional and modern culinary systems, organising events such as food festivals and competitions, and providing training to young Vietnamese to educate them about the country’s culinary culture.
